We had a problem to solve: the subclinical dehydration. We started to think laterally on how to bring the inside of the mouth to the easily observed outside of the face.
Every day we examine our patients and we could see very clear, clinical evidence of dehydration, stress, cheek biting tension in the face muscles, pursed lips when they should be barely touching, fatigued eyes, and dull, dehydrated skin complexion of the face. All the while, our patients may not have been aware of these signs. It isn't easy to keep an eye out, or easily see and monitor these signs inside your own mouth.
One thing was certainly common: subclinical dehydration. In other words, your mouth, your skin and your body is subconsciously dehydrated, and by the time you feel thirsty, it is a very latent stage and overdue to start optimally hydrating. Of course, you should still take a drink of water but your body has been craving it longer than you think.
Subclinical dehydration is very real and has many complex consequences that we will continue to explore. One important effect of this type of dehydration is on the mood, well-being and your skin. Slapping on more makeup cannot easily compensate for dehydrated skin or lips. A healthy radiant complexion starts with a well hydrated skin, both from inside and out.
We wanted to help our patients better monitor their own health and their hydration by observing their skin, eyes and lips and learning how to regularly hydrate from the inside throughout the day, and from the outside by using highly effective products which are founded on knowledge to actually work to hydrate and deliver targeted nourishment to skin, lips and mouth - all at the right layers of tissue.

GGDS the brand was born out of the strong need to help people be self aware and indulge in everyday self care rituals with life's little luxuries. We wanted to help our patients learn about themselves and their well-being, how to better monitor their own health and their hydration by observing their skin, eyes and lips, and face each day with confidence they deserve.
We found it impossible to find correct products to recommend to our patients, which is why we were compelled to start making our own under the GGDS brand. We started carefully studying the ingredients on the back of the boxes on every brand we could lay our hands on. We then went deeper and looked at the evidence presented for how well an ingredient or a product will actually hydrate, nourish or improve elasticity of the skin compared to what the marketing promised.

We were astonished to discover low value ingredients and massive marketing hype and exaggeration on potential outcomes. Entire brands with global reach with apparent scientific backing had their key anti-ageing ingredient studied only on mice, for example, and not humans which was then presented as a breakthrough in research through “youth enzymes”.
It seemed that it is assumed that no consumer would go deeper and question the marketing promises or study the foundation of ingredients. We, however, did just that, connecting with chemists, researchers and world class formulators to decipher the complexities and deliver the most authentic products which combine the world's most exquisite botanicals of pure origin and intelligent actives.
For GGDS, nature is our reference. We are constantly inspired by the beauty of nature. We understand the science of nature, like how and why junctions work between completely different materials such as enamel and dentine.
We deeply understand the Biomimetic principles of biological processes and so we started paying attention to how to best benefit skin. Equally important are junctions between different layers of skin and it is important to know how molecules work and penetrate to benefit at different levels of skin.
We love perfume and the artistry of our French perfumers, but more importantly we understand how the fragrances can enhance the mood and how they connect to the brain.

Nature distilled: How GGDS' Signature Colour was forged
Our signature soft blue-green colour has a sophisticated, fresh feel and is not accidental. We chose this colour to enhance the experience of our patients because it is clean, serene, tranquil and comforting, yet exudes strength and resilience.
Let me explain: I was watching my grandfather as he sprayed the vine leaves with his Bordeaux Blue Copper mixture that he'd mixed himself. It was a sunny morning on a Sunday and a break from normal farm work. With an ancient looking metal spray can on his back, this normally energetic, quick-paced man was calm and methodical as he walked slowly, rhythmically painting all the vines around the house with blue copper to prevent fungal diseases. Then a surprise summer shower started with the sun still shining high in the sky.

As we waited for the rainbow to appear, my grandfather discussed the science of how a rainbow forms and pointed where to look. I asked him if his blue copper spray will wash away. He explained that this is a resilient mixture and colour and can withstand light rain. As we waited, I found myself daydreaming, awash with the Spell of Sunday comfort in the house and imagined all the varieties of blue-green colours that would run if the rain combined the blue with the fresh mid-green of all the vine leaves. The summer shower went as quickly as it came and my grandfather and I were called to the table for the Long Sunday Lunch.
Our Robin Egg Blue colour is steeped in tradition of vines and the health of vineyards. The copper spray itself was first discovered in 19th century Bordeaux, France and is called the Bordeaux mixture.
However, we now know that if it is used in large quantities over many years, it becomes a pollutant. At GGDS, we draw on traditions and look to the future with our eyes cast wide, not only on what is inside our products but protecting the environment and our planet for generations to come.
